What is a Polygon Jeweler?
A Polygon Jeweler is a retail jeweler who is a member of Polygon, the jewelry industry’s largest business-to-business global e-marketplace. For a jeweler, being a member of Polygon is like a stock broker being a member of the New York Stock Exchange: it provides unique buying/selling resources not available to others.
Why buy from a Polygon Jeweler?
A member of Polygon truly brings to you, the consumer, the best of both worlds: Personal Service - With the Internet Advantage.™ A Polygon jeweler is able to use the jewelry industry’s global e-marketplace to source from thousands of actual industry suppliers, in the primary gem and jewelry centers around the world.
For example, when a Polygon Jeweler needs a diamond for a client, he doesn’t just offer what’s in his store, or make a few phone calls to wholesalers. A Polygon Jeweler accesses the global e-marketplace, and searches for the best price and selection available right now: in New York, Antwerp, London, Dubai, Bombay, Hong Kong or well, anywhere. A Polygon Jeweler is able to bring the power of Internet sourcing Internet sourcing on the global dealer market directly to you, the consumer.
Some retailers like to brag that they fly to Antwerp and buy diamonds directly from the source. A Polygon Jeweler does better than that, without having to spend money on an airline ticket.
And the same thing holds true for colored stones, finished jewelry, watches, estate pieces, and more. A Polygon jeweler puts the power of Internet sourcing at your fingertips.
Why sell to a Polygon Jeweler?
The power of a Polygon Jeweler is equally useful if you need to sell or trade up from old jewelry. A typical retail store may not be able to offer you as much as you’d like, because they do not have an easy way to sell the merchandise, once they buy it from you. A Polygon Jeweler can usually offer you the best price, because the Polygon Jeweler can find a true willing buyer for it, if not locally, then maybe in another country, or even on another continent. It’s all part of being a member of the Polygon e-marketplace.
Why a Polygon Jeweler is the Right Choice?
Personal Service. A Polygon Jeweler has an important advantage an e-tailer cannot provide: local presence and personal service. Buying jewelry is not like buying an i-Pod. Seeing what you’re buying, touching it, feeling it, comparing it to similar items under different lighting conditions, is part of the jewelry buying experience. For example, two diamonds may “read” the same on a grading report, yet look very different when you see them side-by-side. The Personal Service of a Polygon Jeweler makes possible this critical comparing of gemstones and items of jewelry. Unlimited Access to Product. Consider all the jewelry sitting in all the retail stores in your local community. All of it together is a drop in the bucket compared to the product that a Polygon Jeweler is able to access in seconds. Looking for a necklace just like the one you saw in Modern Bride? Your Polygon Jeweler knows where to get it. Need a ruby that will make a matched pair with one you already own? A Polygon Jeweler can find you precisely the right ruby, with the right color match, and the exact weight. Want the best deal on a diamond? A Polygon Jeweler can help you scan the diamond markets in real time, on six continents. Internet Pricing Power. When suppliers compete, you win! Your Polygon Jeweler communicates your buying needs to literally hundreds of diamond suppliers world-wide, in seconds. Those suppliers know that they are competing for your business. You will find the diamond you want, and the value you deserve!
Tell us the diamond size and your researched laboratory specifications, and the price you want to pay! With our expertise, we will find the best diamonds that meet those specifications from the multi-billion dollar inventory available to us. With our expert guidance you can make your selection from those diamonds in our showroom. Simply view our available diamonds or tell us with what you are looking for. We have an extensive diamond inventory available to us in addition to our diamonds found in our search function on this website. Buy with confidence!

It has taken numerous years of development to create its exceptional symmetry and facet alignments that provide Forever 10 its signature elements of 10 perfect hearts and 10 perfect arrows. Each of these extremely rare diamonds is hand crafted by one of only 50 master artisans in the world. Buying a diamond can be daunting, but we’ll simplify the process and guide you through every step and even provide dazzling recommendations from our experts. You can search for diamonds based on cut, color, clarity, carat, shape and price. Diamonds and other gemstones are weighed using metric carats with one carat weighing about the same as a small paper clip, or 0.2 grams. Just as a dollar is divided into 100 pennies, a carat is divided into 100 points which means that a diamond of 50 points weighs 0.50 carats. But two diamonds of equal weight can have very different values depending on the other three characteristics of a diamond’s 4Cs: clarity, color, and cut. The majority of diamonds used in fine jewelry weigh one carat or less. Because even a fraction of a carat can represent a considerable difference in cost when purchasing diamonds, exact precision is crucial. In the diamond industry, weight is measured to a thousandth of a carat and rounded to the nearest hundredth. Each hundredth is called a point (a 0.25 ct. diamond would be called a “twenty-five pointer”). Diamond weights greater than one carat are expressed in carats and decimals. (For instance, a 1.08 ct. stone would be described as “one point oh eight carats,” or “one oh eight.”)
Clarity
Because they are created deep within the earth, most diamonds contain unique birthmarks called inclusions (internal) and blemishes (external). Diamonds with very few birthmarks are rare and, of course, rarity affects a diamond’s value. Using the International Diamond Grading System™, created by GIA, diamonds are given a clarity grade that ranges from flawless (FL) to diamonds with more prominent inclusions (I3). Every diamond is unique. But none are absolutely perfect even though some come close, even under 10x magnification. Known as flawless diamonds, they are exceptionally rare. Most jewelers have never even see one. The GIA Clarity Scale contains 11 grades, with most readily available diamonds falling into the VS or SI categories. In determining a clarity grade, GIA considers the size, nature, position, color or relief, and quantity of clarity characteristics visible under 10x magnification.
Color
Diamonds are valued by how closely they approach colorlessness – the less color, the higher the value. Most diamonds found in jewelry stores run from colorless to near-colorless with slight hints of yellow or brown. The only exceptions are the fancy-color diamonds that lie outside of this range. GIA’s diamond color-grading scale is the industry’s most widely accepted grading system. The scale begins with the letter D, representing colorless, and continues, with increasing presence of color, to the letter Z. Diamonds are color-graded by comparing them to stones of known color under controlled lighting and precise viewing conditions. Many of these color distinctions are so subtle that they are invisible to the untrained eye. But these slight color differences make a very big difference in diamond quality and price.
Cut
It seems miraculous that the traditional 58 tiny facets in a diamond, each precisely cut and sharply defined, may be only two millimeters in diameter. But without this precision, a diamond wouldn’t be near as beautiful as it is. Without a doubt, the allure of a particular diamond depends more on cut than anything else. Though extremely difficult to analyze, the cut of a diamond has three attributes: BRIGHTNESS (the total light reflected from a diamond), FIRE (the dispersion of light into the colors of the spectrum), and SCINTILLATION (the light flashes – or sparkle – when a diamond moves). An understanding of diamond cut begins with the shape of a diamond, with the standard round brilliant dominating the majority of diamond jewelry. All other diamond shapes are known as fancy shapes or fancy cuts and include the marquise, pear, oval, and emerald cuts. Hearts, cushions, triangles, and a variety of other new shapes are also gaining popularity in many forms of diamond jewelry. As a value factor, though, cut refers to a diamond’s proportions, symmetry, and polish. For example, look at a side view of the standard round brilliant. The major components, from top to bottom, are the crown, the girdle, and the pavilion. A round brilliant cut diamond can have either 57 or 58 facets, the 58th being a tiny flat facet at the bottom of the pavilion, known as the culet. The large, flat facet on the top is the table. The proportions of a diamond refer to the relationships between table size, crown angle, and pavilion depth. A wide range of proportion combinations are possible, and these ultimately affect the stone’s synchronicity with light.
Your family heirloom can be passed from generation to generation and become part of an inheritance or more simply, something that all members of the family use to celebrate your heritage. Creating a family heirloom is very simple to do. It needs to be something that is cherished and something that has emotional value to make it an item that becomes an heirloom. It can even be a tradition that you have created that stands the test of time, memorializing a family member or a trip abroad, generation after generation to uphold the family spirit. Best Diamond Platinum and Gold Engagement and Wedding Rings In Charlottesville
by Peter Reines
Selecting a diamond should be exciting and fun, not mystifying or nerve-wracking.
If you’re about to get engaged, buying a ring may be your first fine-jewelry purchase. You may be tempted to buy online, but experts agree that it’s best to buy from an established, local, family-owned jeweler for two very important reasons. First, the once-in-a-lifetime experience of engagement ring shopping simply cannot be duplicated on a computer screen. And, since each diamond is unique, it´s virtually impossible to compare diamonds online. What you think you´ll save by buying online, you could easily lose in quality and peace of mind.
What should you look for when choosing a diamond?
Whether you´re buying your first diamond or have purchased diamond jewelry before, it’s important to understand the Four Cs of diamonds: Carat Weight, Color, Clarity and Cut.
Carat Weight is the diamond’s size by weight. A carat is a small unit of measurement equal to 200 milligrams. Because larger diamonds are found less frequently in nature, they are more valuable. Therefore, a one carat diamond will cost more than twice as much as a half carat diamond if other characteristics such as color, clarity and cut are similar.
Color refers to the degree to which a diamond is colorless, with colorless diamonds being the rarest and most valuable. Diamonds are graded on a color scale that ranges from D (colorless) to Z. Icy white diamonds (D-I) look stunning in white gold or platinum. Warmer colored diamonds (J-Z) are more desirable when set in yellow gold.
Clarity refers to inclusions—natural identifying characteristics that appear in most diamonds as they are formed. The position of inclusions can greatly affect the value of a diamond. Inclusions are ranked on a clarity scale that ranges from F (Flawless) to I (Included) and is based on the visibility of inclusions at 10X magnification.
Cut refers to the exact proportions, quality of polish and arrangement of a diamond´s facets. Facets allow light to enter the diamond, become refracted, and exit in a rainbow of colors. While nature determines a diamond´s clarity, carat weight and color, the hand of a master craftsman is necessary to showcase its fire and sparkle.
In addition, there is a very important fifth C: Confidence in the qualifications of the jeweler with whom you choose to do business.

We recommend that a general overhaul be performed every three years and that all water-resistant watches be tested once a year for case tightness.
Cleaning Your Diamonds. During the course of ordinary wear, a diamond is exposed to dirt, dust, perspiration, makeup, and natural skin oils, as well as household chemicals, like chlorine and hairspray. Over time, these materials build up on a diamond, dulling its natural beauty. We recommend having your diamond professionally cleaned and inspected once every six months or if it undergoes some form of trauma, such as being dropped or hit against a hard surface. These inspections help prevent the loss of your diamond solitaire in the event your ring has been inadvertently damaged. Please call us to inspect your diamond for possible damage. Storing Diamond Jewelry. Because of their hardness, diamonds can scratch other diamonds, gemstones and jewelry metals. This is one of the most common ways jewelry is damaged. For this reason, store all jewelry, especially diamond jewelry, in individual soft cloth pouches when not being worn. Insuring Your Diamond. Because unforeseen accidents do happen, we strongly recommend that you insure your diamond against loss, theft, and damage.
PEARLS
Throughout the ages, fine pearl jewelry has been prized for its deep luster and natural beauty. As precious gemstones, pearls do require care to preserve their appearance. If cared for properly, cultured pearls can be treasured for a lifetime. Since pearls are organic gems, they are sensitive to chemicals and harsh environmental conditions. Also, because pearls are soft compared to other jewelry, they should be stored and handled carefully. If you follow the tips below, you can help your fine pearl jewelry remain beautiful for many years to come. Cleaning Your Pearls. To clean pearls, simply wipe them with a soft cloth, which can be either dry or slightly damp. If using a damp cloth, lay the pearls flat to dry. Do not use liquid soap or another chemical product to clean your pearls unless it is specially designed for that purpose, and do not clean your pearls with a toothbrush or other abrasive materials. Storing Your Pearls. Store your fine pearl jewelry in its original packaging, not loose in a jewelry box. This packaging is not only beautiful and elegant, it will also help protect your pearl jewelry from being scratched by other jewelry in your collection. Avoid storing your pearls in extreme heat or in airtight places (like safes that are not regulated to provide humidity). Do not store your pearls in plastic bags for very long periods of time. Pearls benefit from the moisture in the air, and if they are deprived of it for too long they can become fragile or their color may change. Keep your pearl jewelry away from chemicals. Pearls are sensitive to chemicals such as detergents, bleach, and some kinds of soap, so it is best not to wear your pearl jewelry when washing dishes, swimming, or engaging in similar activities. When applying cosmetics, remember the rule “last on, first off”: Put your pearls on last after applying hairspray, perfume and other makeup, and take them off before using makeup remover.
GOLD
Keep your gold jewelry away from harsh chemicals such as chlorine and cleaning fluids. This will reduce daily abrasions and prolong gold’s luster. To clean gold jewelry, use a solution of warm water and detergent-free soap and wash gold gently with a soft-bristled brush (a dull tooth brush works well). Store gold pieces separately in soft cloth bags or original boxes to protect them from the exposure to harsh daily elements.
PLATINUM
Soaking platinum in a mild solution of soap and warm water and gently scrubbing it with a soft-bristled brush is usually all that is required to maintain the metal’s luster.
SILVER
With proper care, your fine quality silver will last a lifetime. To minimize scratches and other damage, store your silver jewelry either in a cloth pouch or in a separate compartment in your jewelry box. Avoid exposing your silver to household chemicals when cleaning with bleach or ammonia, or when swimming in chlorinated water, as these chemicals can damage silver. Clean Your Silver Regularly. Care should also be taken to prevent silver tarnish build-up, a dulling that naturally occurs when silver reacts with sulfur or hydrogen sulfide in the ambient air. To clean your silver, use polishes formulated specifically to remove tarnish. You can find fine silver polishes, solutions, or cloths appropriate to remove tarnish at most hardware stores or specialty craft stores. Tarnish is most easily removed when it first becomes visible. Although wearing your silver jewelry often is the best way to prevent tarnish from building up, regular cleanings of all your silver items will prevent tarnish and keep your silver bright and sparkling.
GEMSTONES
While it’s true that gemstones such as ruby and sapphire are second only to diamond on the hardness scale, it is not a measurement of their indestructibility. It means that these gemstones are able to resist scratching almost as well as a diamond. Abrasive surfaces, harsh chemicals, and sharp blows can damage even the hardest gem. Your gemstone jewelry should be the last thing you put on when getting dressed and the first thing you take off at the end of the night. Store your gemstones carefully and they will be enjoyed for generations. Cleaning Your Gemstones. After removing your gemstone jewelry, clean it by following the directions on a non-abrasive jewelry cleaner. Make sure that the jewelry cleaner specifies that it is safe to use with your gemstone. Use a soft cloth to remove any remaining dirt or other residue. Storing Your Gemstones. Store your gemstone jewelry in a lined case or a soft cloth, so the gems do not touch each other or parts of other jewelry. Gemstones are harder than gold, silver, or platinum and can scratch the surfaces of your other fine jewelry if they are not kept separate.
